LA CASA DEL ABAD

ART HISTORY RESIDENCY AND GALLERY IN OSUNA (SEVILLE)

Design render of the central courtyard of Casa del Abad, designed by Estudio Baelo.

The Nordic Institute of Art has embarked on an ambitious project to establish a residency for art historians and researches, as well as artists, in a XVII century cloister in the historic Sevillian town of Osuna, famous for its renaissance and baroque architecture, artistic patrimony and historic importance. The house will be ideal for art historians and researchers looking for tranquility and inspiration, for writing or for archival research in the area. The proximity with Seville and Córdoba makes it ideal for researchers investigating in those cities. A fully equipped research library focused on Scandinavian art history will make it ideal also for Nordic art historians.

In addition to the Residency guest rooms there will be an art gallery apt for both contemporary and historic exhibitions, which will be curated by the Nordic Institute of Art, as well as display the institutes own collection.

The Nordic Institute of Art will also have use of a central courtyard for events, exhibition receptions and workshops.

The premises are currently undergoing a careful restoration, respecting historic traditions and materials, following a philosophy of minimal intervention and CO2 emissions.

The Residency and gallery are projected to be inaugurated in 2028. Stay tuned for news!
