TEFAF TOUR 2018

NIA TOUR OF "THE ROMANTIC LANDSCAPE

SKETCH" AT TEFAF MAASTRICT 2018

Nordic Institute of Art was happy to be present at this year's TEFAF in Maastricht.

During the preview of TEFAF Maastricht 2018, Nordic Institute of Art organised a special tour of the fair on the topic The Sketch in Romantic Landscape Painting. The event was a collaboration with AXA Art Insurance, Principal Sponsor of TEFAF Maastricht and the Christoph Heilmann Stiftung am Lenbachhaus, Munich.

TEFAF is the leading international fair of art and antiques and was founded by art dealers in 1988 as a non-profit foundation.

The NIA tour visited selected exhibitor boots that featured works by Nordic landscape artists and took the form of a conversation between three scholars on the period: Curator Carl-Johan Olsson, National Museum, Stockholm, Dr. Claudia Denk, Christoph Heilmann Foundation, Munich, and Dr. Knut Ljøgodt, Nordic Institute of Art, Oslo.

The tour focused on early 19th century landscape sketches and plein air paintings. Among the highlighs were works by important Scandinavian landscape painters such as J.C. Dahl, Peder Balke, Gustaf Wilhelm Palm and J.Th. Lundbye, as well as European painters of the same period, namely C.G. Carus, Camille Corot and Thomas Jones.

A select group of fifteen curators, collectors and art professionals participated in the tour, which was followed by a drinks reception hosted by AXA Art Insurance, Nordic Branch, in the AXA VIP lounge.
